In this hands-on session, we'll build confidence with beautiful, natural wet on dry color blends for striking palm tree leaves that have that watercolor look! No prior painting experience needed — just a willingness to get your brush wet and let go of "perfect."
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Control water to pigment ratios in wet on wet and wet on dry areas
Vary colors and work to leave some white space
This session is a deep dive into depth and perspective. We'll cover linear perspective and how to shift edge and values across a composition to show distance.
Recommended for: students comfortable with basic washes who want to tackle a more architectural, multi-plane composition.
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Set up simple linear perspective for doorways/architecture
Layer foreground, midground, and background so a painting reads as deep, not flat
This session is about big, joyful color and some cool texture tricks. We'll paint a vibrant Parrotfish using loose wet-in-wet blending, use a cool trick for scales and fin lines, and create a soft coral reef.
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Blend colors smoothly, wet-in-wet, for a gradient
Use a toothpick for texture lines
Differentiate foreground and background values for contrast and emphasis
Ready to move beyond still life and landscape? This session opens you to basic figure painting — gesture, proportion, and the swirl of fabric in motion — using a Caribbean carnival dancer as our subject. We'll look at some skin tone mixing recipes and basic figure proportions.
Recommended for: students comfortable with basic washes and brush control who are ready for a next-level challenge.
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Rough in believable figure proportion and gesture
Use line and shape to create movement
Mix natural skin tones
