In this hands-on session, we'll build confidence with wet on dry color blends and some techniques for painting transparent glass. No prior painting experience needed — just a willingness to get your brush wet and let go of "perfect."
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Control water to pigment ratios in wet on wet and wet on dry areas
Vary colors and work to leave some white space
This session is a gorgeous look into depth, perspective and lighting in landscape- with a little mist thrown in for fun. We'll cover how to use light and values across a landscape composition to show distance.
Recommended for: students comfortable with basic washes and water control who want to tackle a more challenging scene with multi-step techniques.
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Create mood and lighting in a landscape
Layer foreground, midground, and background so a painting reads as deep, not flat
This session is about fun, looser strokes to suggest details. A slash for a roofline, dabs for leaves…We'll paint a a charming wine country vignette, peeking though the grapevine to the tasting rooms beyond. You'll walk away knowing how to:
Use looser strokes to suggest landscape details
Differentiate foreground and background values and details to create space
Spend the evening on a bike tour of Napa ;) A provided traceable takes care of the bike drawing, leaving us to focus on the stone and wood textures and turquoise blue detail brushwork.
Recommended for: students comfortable with basic washes and brush control who are ready to combine precise linework with loose, expressive painting in one piece.
You'll walk away knowing how to:
Paint clean, controlled color
Balance tight detail against loose, expressive florals
Use dry-brush technique for a rustic, textured wall and door
